United States presidential eligibility legislation : ウィキペディア英語版 | United States presidential eligibility legislation
Article Two, Section 1 of the United States Constitution sets forth the eligibility requirements for serving as President of the United States: :No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.〔(The U.S. Constitution With Declaration of Independence, US Government Printing Office )〕 The controversy arising from conspiracy theories over Barack Obama's citizenship and eligibility for the presidency prompted a number of Republican state and federal legislators to propose legislation aimed at requiring future presidential candidates to release copies of their birth certificates. The Hawaii State legislature went in the opposite direction, to limit the lengths that proponents can go in pursuit of this issue, as the pursuits have drained resources from the state. ==Federal initiatives==
